In a world where everything that is new spreads like wildfire, it is natural that every couple of days a new trend starts. Most of these trends don’t really last, and some of them can be pointless, but harmless. There are some though, that you really need to pinch yourself when you hear about it because it can sound like a bit of joke. And so begins the latest craze – the Divorce Selfie.
A divorce is certainly no cause for celebration for most people. But perhaps in a time where marriage annulments and divorces are becoming something easier and easier to do, some people tend to move on to the next relationship without noticing the damage the previous one caused.
We get attached to any person we are in a long-term relationship with. Be it in a marriage, a long courtship (not really sure this word is used anymore, but hey), an engagement, it doesn’t matter. If this relationship somehow ends, there are always issues in us that have to be dealt with. If there is no “downtime” to deal with these issues, or pain from a previous relationship, and we just move on to the next person that takes our fancy, there is a very good chance we will just continue to accumulate negative baggage with us. Consequently it will just be a matter of time until this baggage takes its toll in another relationship.
When something goes wrong in any other area of our life, we stop, find out where we made a mistake, and then make sure this won’t happen again. But in relationships, most people just think the problem was with the previous person they chose, and if they find someone else who they like they will automatically be happy.
Even though moving on is important, and in few cases divorce can’t be avoided, we can never forget to take time to learn from our mistakes and where things can be improved.
Don’t let anyone pressurize you to move on to another relationship if you feel some things in your life need to be addressed first.
